Who are the Organics?

The Organics have a unique history. Unlike every other subset group, they were self-created. The Transgeneticists who genetically engineered the other subset humans, turned their skills on themselves in order to disappear from the historical record. The Organics emerged, supposedly another subset human group created by the Transgeneticists, which was true, but in this case, they reengineered themselves.

The Transgeneticists believed that what they were being be forced to do—reengineering humans against their will to serve as a new slave class—was highly immoral, indeed, a crime so great that in their minds it made redemption impossible.

So they made a decision. They would do no more. They “spared” the next targeted population slated to be transformed into specialized terraformers who would be used to facilitate the expansion of the Starry Empire.

Instead, they changed themselves. But the price was that some of the targeted population was eliminated so that the Transgeneticists could fake a mass suicide.

The Transgeneticists disappeared from the historical record.

But they continued on as the Organics.

To conceal their trickery, the Transgeneticists enhanced the transformation so that Psians were unable to scan them.

As a result of the weight they carried for what they done, the Organics became dedicated pacificists. They had violated others, killed them, changed them, and to atone for their crimes, if possible, they would dedicate themselves to their purpose—to terraform dead worlds—to create life—to create places for new stories to be lived and to be told.

But they are pacificists with accountability, and when the other subsets rebelled against the Starry Empire because of their slavery, the Organics, feeling responsible for the plight of the subsets, supported the effort.

It was a rare exception, and they are known throughout the Starry Empire as a people who preferred to die if survival meant killing another.

But they are ever waiting for an opportunity to undo what they were forced to do.

I LOVED SyFy’s FACEOFF. LOVED. LOVED. LOVED! In an homage to the show, the Organics clothing is limited to G-strings/thongs/micro-bikinis, if that, and instead, they “clothe” themselves in body paint (a SyFy FACEOFF challenge), often in elaborate styles. I judged this consistent with their naturalist value system.

As much as possible, the Organics live in alignment with the environment. They limit their use of hardware because such reliance would make them vulnerable to prying Data Angels and Cybers or even natural born spies. (plus, their naturalists) As a result, it was the Organics that saved the day during the AI Machine War that came close to wiping out humans in the Starry Empire.

Their terraforming work doesn’t require much interaction with other humans.

They keep to themselves. Others view them as too strange to bother.

The Organics like it that way.

They are balanced in power dynamics between the sexes.

They practice empathy but with boundaries.

You will not find an Organic on social media—they do not chase validation.

They are idealists at heart yet practical to what can be done.

Most relationships are built around traditional family structures.

They are spiritual but not religious.

They appreciate ritual.

And they live with the shadow of ancient wrongs always working to be noticed.
